Ever since the latest Star Trek movie was released last summer, Trekkie fanboys have been going nuts over the "inaccuracies" and "sacrilege" that J.J. Abrams has created with his version of the Star Trek universe. I would suggest that if you have not seen Star Trek into Darkness and want to not spoil it then stop reading.
I would agree that Abrams has turned Star Trek into more of a Star Wars world, but his movies are still entertaining and provide enough thrills that fanboys should enjoy what is provided. Yet, this just isn't the case.
Following the release of Abrams reboot Star Trek, the comments were near universal that fans were excited about the possibility of Khan being reintroduced now that the timeline had been changed. However, when they actually get a new Khan story, they nitpick it to death. I have not understood where all the complaining is coming from. Yes, some of the details have been changed and the deep thinking themes of previous Star Trek adventures is missing from Abrams films, but they are still highly engrossing.
I came across the following website that counterpoints many of the arguments Star Trek fans have with the latest movie. The author presents some valid opinions regarding the supposed plot holes. The webpage can be found here.
You may find Star Trek into Darkness as dumb and pointless as many Star Trek fans did, but for me it was a great blockbuster action/science fiction movie that told a different, but familiar, tale.
